The subject of this paper is multi-criteria analysis of selection the best models of geometrically complex glass facade. Ten different models are created, according to geometric characteristics that vary by models: shape, curvature, size and edges shape of panels. Results show selection of optimal models – alternatives of geometrically complex glass facade using method of multi-criteria compromise ranking – AHP method (Analytical Hierarchical Process). This is one of the most popular methods of scientific analysis of scenarios and decision-making through the process of evaluating alternative solutions.
For multi-criteria optimization, a set of following 10 criteria are adopted, according to which alternatives are evaluated:
1. Design criteria:
- Form – resemblance to the original model (freely curved).
- Transparency.
- Node complexity.
- Surface smoothness.
- Visual distortion.
- Light effects.
2. Technological criteria:
- Curved glass-shaping technique.
- Material efficiency.
3. Economic criteria:
- Hard costs/m2.
- Total investments.
The values of all criteria functions according to all alternatives are shown. Three scenarios are defined, and for each a different combination of criteria weights. The first scenario represents the equal importance of all criteria. In second scenario, greater value is given to design criteria weights. In third scenario, technological and financial interest is represented so greater values are given to those criteria. Finally, ranking of alternatives is done according to three selected scenarios of different combinations of criteria weights.
The aim of this study is to demonstrate the efficacy of AHP method in practice when necessary to reach an optimal decision in selecting the best models of geometrically complex glass facade.
