The construction industry is responsible for the highest consumption of resources and quantity of waste of all industries. Due to the increasing scarcity of resources and environmental burden it is demanded to keep construction materials in closed, environmentally compatible cycles as much as possible.
But how do we know and validate, what can still be used (not all materials can be or like hazardous ones should not be reused), to what extent (as complete elements, in parts or in their single components) and how do we judge (with Environmental Products Declarations, product labels, or simulation tools) and when do we do it (on site, in the re-design planning)?
iWin now offers a digital service that enables its customers and their customers to track the glazing units (and the facade elements) before delivery, on the construction site and after installation, and even during its usage. Each insulating glass unit is equipped with a RFID transponder, which is written with an identification number (ID) and can be read with commercial RFID readers. This ID is stored in a database where customers can retrieve information about the product, e.g., glass build-up or environmental impact, but also order and shipping details. iWin thus becomes the link between the digital twin (the data) and its analog counterpart (the product) – the product-integrated, digital delivery bill that will be necessary towards a circular economy.
