The first use of silicone sealant in a four-sided structural glazing application marks it 50-year anniversary in 2021. The building, located in Detroit, Michigan, still performs today as when it was originally installed in 1971. History of the engineering and performance of the Detroit building is reviewed as well as current observations of the structural sealant condition. Additional reference projects will be discussed to showcase the historical proven performance of silicone structural glazing withstanding weather, earthquakes, hurricanes and other environmental factors.
