Physical and thermal transfer at roll interface

The constant evolution of glasses and quality standards, the search for always more performance in architectural, automotive and solar industry become a permanent challenge for the complete furnace engineering. Delivering high quality when handling the glass in the plastic stage of the treatment, drives the selection of all moving pieces capable to address end product quality. Nature of contact between glass tempering roll bed and glass sheet is essential to ensure the best tempered glass quality. Physical interactions at surface as well as thermal behavior of fused silica rolls are complex and must be well understood. It is the result of several parameters such like part geometry and mechanical behavior, or even heat transfer conditions, all occurring in dynamic mode. Considerations on geometric behavior will be evaluated through physical and thermal influences. Properties at fused silica roll interface will be investigated in regard to impact on glass quality.
