Laminated safety glass is one of the most important components of modern architecture. For producing laminated safety glass, two glass panes will be connected by use of a polymeric interlayer film. Currently, laminating films made of polyvinyl butyral (PVB) are used predominately, but there are some other materials on the market for special products, like ionomers or ethylene-vinylacetate (EVA) films. For the processing of safety glasses, several lamination processes are used. Autoclave technology is the well-established standard technology for large volume glass lamination, but vacuum processes are more and more popular for the production of customized glass laminates. All the different processes have their own advantages and special requirements. It is easy to understand that the different laminating films offer selective features for the different technologies, too. During the presentation, new approaches from recent developments of Folienwerk Wolfen GmbH and it´s scientific partners will be discussed, especially for EVA laminating films. The presentation will focus on the current status of the usability of EVA laminating films for the manufacture of glass laminates using several production processes.
