Cold Warped Glass Engineering and Durability

As engineering, geometry, fabrication and installation techniques develop so does the complexity and scale of integration into architecture. Curved glass allows imaginative aesthetic forms and the development of cold warping of large glass panels can affect efficient construction. This paper will present a summary of the development and integration of cold warped glass from around the world, including studies into small scale testing, installations and lessons learnt from these past projects. The paper will present a real project case study for large cold warped double-glazed units including desktop engineering (detailed finite element analysis of the glass, edge seals, laminates, effects of wind loads, creep and relaxation through thermal effects), verification procedures undertaken including full scale accelerated testing techniques, comparative analysis of the calculations and testing and discussion of the short term and long term effects of cold warping on double glazed units edge seals and laminated glass.
