Event description

Glass Performance Days Conference has reached its 25 Year Anniversary in June 28-30, 2017. GPD can look back at an impressive record of collected and shared glass industry essentials, making it more than 10 000 pages of technical documents. Since its inception in 1992, a total of over 14,600 delegates have attended 3,200 presentations, listened to 1,100 speakers and formed over 30,000 contacts.

Twenty-five years could well be labeled one generation in the life of a business. Many things have changed and some basics, like the physical properties of the glass material, have remained the same. A look at today's city planning and building designs plus the requirements put on energy-efficiency, environmental comfort and stylishness reveals how far we have come from the very first use of glass to cover window openings in buildings.

The beginnings of GPD

The start of GPD was triggered by the observation that glass processors had something very important in common – the effective use of state-of-the-art equipment and technology. It was equally evident that this know-how was something that needed to be shared. ‘We have always believed in the power of information sharing for the development of the industry’, Vitkala adds.

Key success factors

‘The modular program, facilitating networking, the hands-on workshops on special topics and the path-breaking presentations of new technology clearly standout on GPD’s success menu’, says Jorma Vitkala. ‘The 25 Years anniversary conference will naturally use all of these and add some more’, Jorma Vitkala promises.

GPD Step Change 2017

This year we are launching the Step Change program, which is going to introduce new technologies aimed to propel the development of the glass industry. We plan on doing this by involving startup companies, investors and a mentoring platform. The event will address the need to have continuity in transferring knowledge from the older to the younger generations. The event will further focus its mission to support growth through innovation and education.
